We employed, John Scandurra (Architect) to design the renovations to our family home situated in Deagon, QLD.
We were with John for almost 2 years from preplanning through to handover.
His service also extended to the 12 month building check. During this time we have seen his business grow into a professional organisation, he has been our marriage counsellor, he has advised us and worried with us. He has dreamt big dreams and then managed the reality.
He listened to our ideas so very carefully, and then interpreted them in ways that made them so much better. During construction, he stood in our house with no walls, with a faraway look in his eyes and talked about the "glory of spaces" and "sudden unexpected views" and the "solidness" and "warmth" of the building.
He talked about the finish and excited us into believing it wasn’t just a dream.
Throughout our renovations, many things impressed us about John Scandurra. However, his calm demeanour and ability to never present a problem without a choice of solutions, his excellent project and time management skills as well as his ability to interpret and listen to our needs as clients are amongst his greatest assets.
John has been an incredible find.
I would recommend him to anyone and everyone. I will miss him when he moves on to his next job but I wish him success and great joy.

To Whom It May Concern
We first met John Scandurra through Archicentre when we requested a meeting with an architect to explore our plans for renovations to our pre-war house at Hawthorne. We were pleasantly surprised at how open John was to listening to our ideas and turning them into achievable plans.
We commissioned John to not only design the renovation but also to be project manager. The project has taken around three years from concept to completion, with many delays due to the unseasonal wet weather experienced during the last 18 months coinciding with the building process.
We found John easy to deal with and full of interesting ideas. The melding process of our ideas with his was an exciting journey and at no time did we find John forcing concepts on us. Together we retained the charm of an older home while marrying practical, sustainable additions, which melded seamlessly.
Fitting all we wanted into a small lot while still meeting Council requirements proved a significant challenge. John was able to find innovative ways to satisfy council requirements while retaining the integrity of the design we had settled on, and still providing us with enjoyable outdoor space.
From the beginning the intention was to create an environmentally friendly home that maximized the northern and eastern aspect of the house. We needed to work through various options before settling on the final design that would meet our objectives and meet budget.
During the construction phase we were faced with a major variation due to the foundations not having the integrity we had expected. Through quick work with the builder John was able to come up with revised plans that actually improved the house significantly and gave more options for future development. The builder John had helped us find during the tender process also made a major contribution to this revision and we found that as a team John, the builder and we as clients worked really well at solving problems.
With the project management we found John to be really conscientious and his minutes of site meetings and documentation were first class. Given that ours was a long project this documentation became invaluable for all parties as the project went on.
In the event that we did another renovation we would have no hesitation in contracting John to be the architect. We have found him to be a warm and friendly person who was always available to discuss concepts and meet when necessary. Nothing was too much of a problem for him and he always approached matters in a calm and helpful way. Our greatest accolade for John is that he is always suggesting new ideas and innovative ways to tackle a problem – in this way we were not afraid to continually suggest improvements to him that he was always willing to consider.
We would be happy to speak personally with anyone referred to us through John Scandurra.
